Berrye castle :

a historical legacy with its vineyards and its architectural heritage

Berrye castle, a historical place to discover

A listed historical monument, the castle has been majestically rising in the midst of its vineyards since the 12th century.

Built on a rocky promontory and circled with dry moats and underground galleries, it was once a defensive position and a place of refuge. This glorious past is still visible today.

Come and discover an extraordinary site where each tuffeau stone, each troglodyte pathway and each plot of vines is full of historical testimonies and mysteries still to be solved.

Berrye castle is a listed historical monument in its entirety

The new landowners, the Colinet family have the ambition to launch a large renovation program which will cover a few years.

The renovation projects have started in Spring this year after some preliminary maintenance and drainage works. It will consist in renovating the square tower (12th century), the south and east walls as well as refurbishing the entrance hall and first floor.

Our fortress is regularly open to visits on numerous occasions such as The Heritage Days, The Castles’night, concerts, recitals and cultural events. Visits can also be organised on request and complemented with a tasting of the estate’s wines.

Berrye Estate :

our wines are produced on a unique terroir

One of the best Saumur wines is produced on very well oriented plots of lands surrounding the castle and organically grown. Our red and white wines are specific for they can be easily kept for many years. The red wines can mature over 10 years and for our wonderful Chenin, we can still enjoy 20 year-old bottles.
