Berrye Wine estate :

a terroir of wines of character

Berrye Castle is surrounded by vineyards which now cover 310 acres.
They have been planted for many decades and give the possibility to produce structured wines, rich in aromas.

The estate benefits from the Saumur and Saumur Puy-Notre Dame appellation and spreads over the hillsides of the village of Berrye.

An approach respectful
of the environment
to produce quality wines.

Since 2021, the estate has been converting to organic farming in order to obtain the label within three years.

The vineyard is environmentally engaged for we start setting up agroforestry, apiculture and eco-grazing in the Fortress.

During winemaking, we reduce sulfites and additional inputs as much as possible to obtain very satisfying rates. The rates in sulfites are close to the ones in natural wines.

Our various grape varieties

We grow the following grape varieties

Chenin

Cabernet franc

Cabernet sauvignon

Our wines

Here are the wines of the Berrye Castle :

Different appellations in Saumur Wines

Plots locations and quality give the possibility to produce several appellations. Red Saumur, White Saumur, Crémant de Loire and Coteaux de Saumur produce exceptional wines to keep.

The flagship of our estate is our range of dry white wines, all made with Chenin. Each millesime gives the possibility to develop an original and surprising character to which we let the liberty to evolve for uniformity is not our mindset here in Berrye Castle !

Some traditional winemaking methods :

Cement vats and wooden 400 l barrels, long vatting, bottling after a period of up to two years sometimes.

Our wines are made and matured in troglodyte cellars which give them the best conditions to evolve.

For the 2022 vintage, we will be delighted to present our new appellation, still relatively unknown :

Saumur Puy-Notre Dame.
