Living wines crafted with respect for the place, its terroir, and its ancestry.

Wines of place, for aging and with character
Due to their terroir, Berrie wines naturally express character and depth. Old vintages found in the château’s troglodyte cellars today bear witness to the great aging potential and typicality of the estate’s wines (both whites and reds). The legacy of the predecessor, Jacques Pareuil, is essential to understanding this millennial wine region; “visit the château and you will understand its wines” he would say.
The troglodyte galleries in the counterscarp of the Fortress’s moats provide perfect conditions for wine conservation, aging, and vinification. The thermal insulation (between 12° and 14° degrees Celsius all year round) thus promotes aging conditions as well as gentle fermentations by facilitating temperature control. In the estate’s ancestral cellar, our team works to create fine and living wines that respect the typicality of the place. As a tribute to the long history of the estate, the work in the cellar is oriented to produce vintages that hold up and improve through the years, even decades. It is in coherence with this vision that long aging is favored and interventions with exogenous products are limited.

Wines from Saumurois and Vienne
The location and quality of our plots allow us to produce our wines under several Saumur appellations: Saumur Blanc, Saumur Rouge, Saumur Puy Notre Dame, Crémant de Loire, Rosé de Loire, and Coteaux de Saumur.
Wines from Vienne? Specificity and identity.
The vineyard in the north of the Vienne is the most southern in the Saumurois region. Benefiting from well-exposed hillsides, strong ventilation, and being far from the coolness of the Loire, the soil composed of yellow and/or green chalk, rich in minerals, promotes advanced ripeness and a high sugar content in the berries. The wines are therefore generally very concentrated and have aromatic palettes of floral notes and ripe, even stewed, fruits.
Furthermore, a future DGC BERRIE, for dry white wines, is expected to very soon reward and highlight the typicality and quality of this terroir!
As for the valorization of our red wines, we already produce under the DGC PUY NOTRE DAME, a slightly broader designation that recognizes the most beautiful plots of Cabernet Franc in the southern Saumurois territory.
