The Berrye estate:
a terroir where exceptional wines with character are crafted
The vineyard of the Fortress of Berrye extends all around the castle and currently spans 12.5 hectares of vines. Planted several decades ago, they produce structured wines rich in aromas.
The estate benefits from the Saumur and Saumur Puy-notre-dame appellations and extends over the hillsides of the village of Berrie.

An environmentally friendly approach, to produce quality wines
Since 2021, the estate has been in organic conversion.
The vineyard is environmentally committed as we are starting to implement agroforestry, beekeeping, and the presence of a small flock of Ouessant sheep on the estate.
During the winemaking process, we minimize sulfur and inputs to obtain very satisfactory levels. The sulfite levels are close to those of natural wines.
Our different grape varieties
We cultivate the following grape varieties:

Chenin
Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Sauvignon
Our wines
Here are the different wines from the Berrye Fortress estate:

Different Saumur Wine appellations
The location and quality of the plots allow us to produce several appellations. Saumur Rouge, Saumur Blanc, Crémant de Loire, and Coteaux de Saumur offer exceptional wines for aging.
The flagship of the estate is the range of dry white wines, all made with Chenin. Each vintage allows an original and surprising character to develop, which we let express itself. Uniformity is not the name of the game at the Fortress of Berrye!
Traditional winemaking methods:
Concrete tanks and 400-liter wooden barrels, long vatting periods, and bottling after aging that can last up to two years.
The wines are vinified and aged in a troglodyte cellar, which gives them the best conditions to evolve.
For the 2022 harvest, we will be delighted to introduce you to a new, still little-known appellation:
Saumur Puy-Notre Dame.
